Looking Up When Life is Looking Down

This is the name of an inspiring little book by Beth Moore.  Here's a little excerpt that caught my eye as I was asking God for His guidance [hopefully she won't mind me sharing some of her thoughts and the scripture with it]...

"While you wait for God to work and to manifest your sure deliverance,
wrap yourself around Him as tightly as you possibly can.
Ask Him to make you more God-aware than you have ever been in your life.
Bind yourself to Him with everything you've got so that you will ultimately -
inevitably - go anywhere He does.
Hang on for dear life and never let go.
No matter how long it takes, He'll never run out of breath or
stop to soak His aching feet.
Pin yourself so close to Him that you can almost hear Him whisper.
His words will live in you and you will live in Him.
God does not make His home in a pit.
Bound to His holy robe, neither will you."

'But those who wait on the Lord,
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary.
They shall walk and not faint.'
                                             Isaiah 40:31

'He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
He set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.'
                                          Psalm 40:2

"Without hesitation God offers you a firm place to stand,
but your feet are not firmly set in place
until you've made up your own mind that's
where you want to be."

Mrs. Moore and I are not from the same "church", but I believe we share a love of the Lord.   Some things she may say/write aren't exactly how I view or believe, but she is a very gifted writer, speaker, teacher, and I have no doubt in my mind that she loves the Father and His Son with all her soul.

May it be the same for each of us.  May we study scripture more deeply and love the Father more fully each day and importantly, strive to be more Christ-like in everything we do.

By His grace...

It's almost here...

Can't believe today is December 1st!  2011 has literally flown by and I'm just not ready for 2012 to be here!  That sounds so futuristic, as I've probably posted before...being born in 1953, well, let's just say 2012 would have sounded impossible at that time.  But, here we are!  And the chill with it!  Tallahassee was actually colder than most of the New England states this morning!  How crazy is that?!  It is beautiful outside and right now, it's not that terribly uncomfortable.

Our Thanksgiving was great.  We started out with lunch at Broadview with Carl's mom. They had everything decorated nicely for the fall, and prepared a nice turkey dinner.  Mrs. V was so happy to have her boys with her!

not the best of pictures, but all we had of this...

Later that afternoon, we had a second gathering of all the family, along with our son's future in-laws, for another meal and time of fellowship.  We had visited before this time last year, but this year was even more special, since we had definite plans in the mix.

The Daviduks

Charlie just would not be serious in any pictures...
If you'll notice the cap...might tell you something.

Carl & Mike after another great meal!

And to add a little punch to the evening, it was decided to go ahead and set the date for their wedding.  Hold on to your hats, it's Christmas Eve...yes, 2011!  Nichole's sister in California will be here for the holidays, and would not be able to come again for nearly a year.  And, since the two of them had decided on a small, family wedding anyway, they just thought, why not?!

So, quick as a flash, laptop in hand, research was completed on finding a house to rent at the beach that would hold the entire family, and presto...it's set!  Noon on Christmas Eve on the beach between Destin & Ft. Walton.  Beautiful location, and though it's coming up fast, all is great and everyone is happy!

Can't wait!
More to share on the big event when the time comes.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
